THE “BMD” PHILOSOPHY

We best make do with what we got. It’s the philosophy my grandmother lived by—she was a mother to sixteen, a hardworking farmer, a master home cook, and a woman who put her community first. And her philosophy never failed—she somehow created magic with whatever she had on hand, making pies, sewing quilts, fixing what was broken, using whatever was available at the moment.

And it is just that spirit from which Best Make Do emerged: ingenuity. The dream to build something unique, the drive to make use of a variety of skillsets for meaningful work, and the need to fill a valley in the rough landscape of creative services—a gap that traditional agencies simply cannot affordably provide.

So because of that, we do things a little differently at Best Make Do. We want to serve individuals and small businesses who need some help sharing their one-of-a-kind stories, their beautiful creations, and the delicious fruits that can only come from a labor of love.

Kristin Steele, founder and creative director

Kristin has over 15 years of experience working in a variety of industries including marketing, journalism, and higher education. After beginning her career as a news reporter in 2009, she continued her education, earning an MFA in Creative Nonfiction writing while working at New York City talent agency. She later returned to her hometown in West Virginia to teach English at Marshall University, and eventually found her way back into marketing, founding Best Make Do in May 2021. Kristin is a creative writer, multimedia artist, and she almost used this business name for a YouTube cooking channel. That didn’t work out. This is a photo of her at age five singing “Is There Life Out There” by Reba McEntire in Alabama at Space Camp. Her dreams of being the next Paula Abdul or Tanya Tucker didn’t, either.
